Quintissential Yosemite. You can't visit Yosemite without getting a picture of the valley.

Sheryl by the Fire. We did not have campfires very often during our trip, but on cool nights they were great to sit by.

Spring in Bloom. During our whole trip southward from Alaska, we saw many examples of springtime blossoms.

Late Season Snow. We cut short our visit to Sequoia National Park because of a late season snowstorm.

A Walk in the Snow. Michael and Becky didn't let a little snow keep them from hiking around the big trees.

Desert Flowers. We also saw a fantastic variety of blossoms in the deserts.

Nesting Instinct. A hummingbird on its nest at the Desert Museum near Tucson.

Rattlesnake Encounter. A dangerous encounter? Not really. This little guy was posing behind the glass at the Desert Museum outside of Tucson.

Cactus. The diversity of cactii in the southwest is remarkable. There are at least five different varieties in this picture.

Family Portrait. Until we can train both Becky and Michael to pose properly for the camera, most of our family portraits are likely to look something like this one.

Fun in the Pool. All four of us in the pool on a hot Arizona afternoon.

Gila Cliff Dwellings. Becky hiked all the way there, and most of the way back, but while climbing around the Gila Cliff Dwellings in southern New Mexico, it seemed easier to let Becky ride.

Becky at Home on the Range. No matter where we go during the day, Becky always goes to sleep and wakes up in the Scamp. It's almost like being at home, only much, much smaller.

Bottomless Lakes State Park. The lakes may not be bottomless, but we enjoyed complete solitude at this New Mexico campground.

Oklahoma Wildflowers. We saw lots of wildflowers along the highways. For both Sheryl and Michael, this was our first experience with traveling in the spring.

Wading in Arkansas. This stream ran past our campsite near Hot Springs, Arkansas. Earlier in the morning we saw several snakes in the creek, but they all cleared out after the sun hit the water.

Jean & Larry. Jean is Sheryl's college roommate from her sophomore year at Mount Holyoke College. Larry farms corn, tobacco, and wheat on their eighty acre farm in Glasgow, Missouri, while Jean teaches high school math in nearby Fayette.

Missouri Farmland. Camping at a farm was a new experience for us, and the lightning show the previous evening was spectacular.

Young and Old. Michael Robert meets Robert Russell, his great-grandfather.

Michael and his Dad. We stayed with Bob -- Michael Lee's dad -- and Kathy three separate times over the summer. After arriving there in mid-May we flew back to Juneau for three weeks (so Sheryl could finish teaching the school year). We came back in early June and stayed over a week, then returned for the family reunion in mid-July.
